Group Discount

Offer lower per-person prices as group size grows, so larger bookings cost less per traveler and you fill more seats.

Offer lower prices as groups get bigger

Group Discount lets you charge less per traveler when more people book together. You set the group size ranges. The add-on handles the price change for you during checkout.

Say you run a 5-day trek that costs $500 per person. If someone books for 6 people, you may want to lower the price to $450 per person to encourage the booking. Group Discount does that automatically.

Your travelers still book the same way they always do. They see the group pricing clearly, and the total updates as they add more people.

What you'll need before you start

A quick check now will save you time later.

  • You have WP Travel Engine installed and activated on your WordPress site.
  • You have bought and installed the Group Discount add-on.
  • You have activated the add-on with a valid license key.
  • You have created at least one trip.

Once those are in place, you are ready to check that the add-on is active.

Installing the Group Discount add-on

See how to activate a Pro add-on license key for the full installation and activation walkthrough.

Verifying the installation

It helps to check this first so you know the add-on is active before you start setting prices.

Go to your WordPress Dashboard

Log in to WordPress. In the left sidebar of your WordPress dashboard, click WP Travel Engine and then click Settings.

Open the Group Discount settings

Inside the settings area, open Extensions and then click Group Discount.

Confirm the settings panel is visible

Make sure you can see the Group Discount settings panel on screen. If you can see it, the add-on is active and ready to use.

Now that you know the add-on is working, you can set the text your travelers will see.

Configuring global settings

These settings control the wording that appears on your trip pages and booking form. This helps you match the message to the kind of trips you sell.

What you'll need before you start: have a short message ready for your travelers, such as a note about better prices for larger groups.

Open the Group Discount settings

In the left sidebar of your WordPress dashboard, go to WP Travel Engine and then Settings. Open Extensions and click Group Discount.

Add your Group Discount Info message

Use Group Discount Info for the message shown on trip archive pages. This is the list of trips your customers browse before opening a trip.

A good example is: Group discounts available - book more, pay less.

Set the collapsed label in the booking form

Use Discount Guide Title for the label shown when the group pricing section is closed.

A good example is: Group Discount

Set the expanded label in the booking form

Use Discount Guide Open Title for the label shown when the pricing tiers are opened.

A good example is: View Group Pricing

Save your changes

Save the settings so the new text appears on your site. After that, your travelers will see clearer pricing messages while they browse and book.

Group Discount Info

Use this field for the short message shown on trip archive pages. This is a good place to tell people that larger groups get a better rate.

For example, if you run guided day tours, you could write: Book with friends and pay less per person. If you run multi-day treks, you could write: Group discounts available for larger trekking groups.

Discount Guide Title

Use this field for the label shown when the group pricing section in the booking form is closed. Keep it short so travelers know what they are about to open.

For example, Group Discount works well for most trips. If you want clearer wording, you could also use Group Pricing.

Discount Guide Open Title

Use this field for the label shown after the pricing tiers are expanded. This tells travelers they are now looking at the price breakdown.

For example, View Group Pricing is clear and familiar. On a family tour, you might prefer See Group Rates.

If you leave these fields empty, the default labels are used.

Once the global wording looks right, the next step is to add group pricing to the trips that need it.

Setting up group discounts for an individual trip

Group discounts are set up inside each trip package. That means you can use them on some trips and leave them off on others.

What you'll need before you start: make sure the trip already has a package and at least one pricing category with a base price, such as Adult or Child.

Open the trip's Packages

In your WordPress dashboard, go to Trips in the left sidebar and edit the trip you want to add discounts to. Inside the trip editor, open the Trip Settings area and find Date & Price and then Packages.

Open a package's pricing

Find the package you want to edit and click Edit Pricing & Rates.

Open a pricing category

Click a pricing category where you have already set a price, such as Adult or Child.

You are now in the right place to turn on group pricing and add your pricing tiers.

Enable Group Pricing

Turn on Enable Group Pricing to show the pricing table. This is the switch that tells the trip to use group-based prices for that category.

Once you turn it on, the pricing table appears. You can then add the group size ranges and the price for each range.

Define Pricing Tiers

The pricing table is where you tell the system how much each traveler should pay based on the size of the group. Think of it as a price ladder.

For example, say your trek costs $500 per person. You might set it up like this:

  • 1-3 travelers at $500 per person
  • 4-6 travelers at $475 per person
  • 7 or more travelers at $450 per person

That way, the bigger the booking, the lower the per-person cost.

Number of Persons (range)

This is the group size range for a pricing tier. It tells the system when that price should apply.

For example, if you enter 4 to 6, that price will be used when 4, 5, or 6 travelers are booked together.

Price per Person

This is the amount each traveler pays when the booking falls inside that range. The system applies that price automatically.

For example, if your 4 to 6 traveler range is set to $475, each person in a 5-person booking pays $475.

If you no longer need a tier, click the delete icon to remove it. If you also sell child pricing or another traveler type, repeat the same setup for each category you want to discount.

Your traveler ranges must run in order with no gaps. For example, if one tier ends at 6, the next tier must start at 7. Do not overlap ranges either. If one tier covers 1 to 5, the next should start at 6, not 5.

Once your tiers are saved, your trip is ready to show group pricing to travelers.

Troubleshooting

The group discount isn't showing up on my trip page

First, check that Enable Group Pricing is turned on inside the trip package pricing for that category. If it is off, the pricing table will not appear on the trip page.

Next, go to the Plugins page in your WordPress dashboard and make sure the Group Discount add-on is activated. If the add-on is inactive, the feature will not work on the front end.

The discount price isn't changing when I add more travelers

Check your traveler ranges carefully. The ranges must be set correctly and must not overlap or leave gaps.

For example, if one tier is 1 to 3 and the next tier is 5 to 7, the system has no price for 4 travelers. Keep the ranges continuous so every group size has a matching tier.

I can't find the Group Discount settings

Make sure the Group Discount add-on is installed and activated. Then go to WP Travel Engine, Settings, Extensions, and Group Discount in the left sidebar of your WordPress dashboard.

If the settings still do not appear, go to Plugins, deactivate the add-on, and activate it again. Then return to the settings page and check again.

The pricing table only shows for one category

Group pricing is set up separately for each pricing category. That means Adult, Child, and any other category each need their own group pricing setup.

If you only turned on Enable Group Pricing for one category, only that category will show the pricing table. Open the other categories and add their tiers one by one.

My ranges aren't saving

Check that your ranges do not overlap. If one tier covers 1 to 5, the next tier must start at 6.

After updating the tiers, make sure you click Save or Update on the trip. If you leave the page without saving, the new ranges will not be kept.
