Altus AIContent Generation

Content Generation

Let AI write your trip overviews, highlights, itineraries, and FAQs so you can publish trip listings faster with less manual writing.

What Content Generation does

Content Generation writes the main sales copy for your trip pages. It can draft your overview, highlights, itinerary, includes and excludes, FAQs, and any custom tab you have added to your trip layout.

You give it the real trip details first. Then it turns those details into a first draft that matches your brand voice, tone, and reading level. That means you are editing a draft instead of staring at a blank box.

This is most useful if you manage lots of trips. It also helps if you do not have time to write every listing from scratch. Once you know where the settings live, the rest feels much more manageable.

Before you start

You will need two things before this works.

Make sure Altus AI is active

Altus AI needs to be installed and turned on in WordPress. Your license key also needs to be active.

If you are not sure, open your WordPress dashboard and look at the left sidebar. Then go to Plugins and confirm that Altus AI is active.

Connect an AI provider

Altus AI needs a writing engine before it can generate content. The AI provider is the service that actually creates the draft for you.

Go to Altus AI > AI Provider in the left sidebar of your WordPress dashboard and make sure one provider is already connected.

To learn how you can configure your AI Provider, please refer to this documentation.

Once those two pieces are in place, you are ready to choose how the writing should sound.

Configure the model and parameters

These settings control how Altus writes across your whole site. You only need to set them once to get started.

Open the Content Generation settings

This is where you tell Altus how to write before you use it on any trip.

In your WordPress dashboard, go to Altus AI > Content Generation on the left sidebar.

AI Provider

Choose the connected AI provider you want Altus to use. This list only shows providers you have already added under AI Providers.

For example, you might use one provider for all of your trekking trips because you like how it writes detailed itineraries. If you switch providers here, the change applies across your site.

AI Model

Choose the model from that provider. The model is the specific version of the AI that does the writing.

Different models can give different results. Some are better at short marketing copy. Others are better at longer itinerary sections. The model you choose can also affect cost.

Temperature

Temperature changes how strict or creative the writing feels. Lower numbers stay closer to the facts you gave it. Higher numbers allow looser wording and more variation.

If you are writing day-by-day itineraries, lower settings often work better. Most trip content works well between 0.6 and 0.8.

Say you run a 10-day lodge trek and want the itinerary to stay clear and practical. A lower setting will usually keep the writing more grounded.

Some models do not use Temperature. This is common with reasoning models such as o1, o3, and GPT-5. If your model does not support it, set it to 1 so Altus can safely ignore it.

Token Limit

Token Limit controls how much text the AI can produce before it stops. In plain terms, a higher limit gives the AI more room to finish longer sections.

If your itinerary cuts off halfway through day 6 of a 12-day trip, this is usually the setting to raise first. A higher limit can increase your provider cost, so change it only when you need more length.

If the AI Model dropdown looks empty, your provider usually has not loaded its model list yet. Go back to AI Providers and test the connection again.

Now that the writing engine is set, you can choose the style you want for your trip pages.

Set your output defaults

These settings shape the voice of every draft. They help Altus sound more like your business and less like a generic travel site.

Keep Brand Voice under 300 words. This field has a big effect on how natural your content feels.

Additional Instructions

Use Additional Instructions for rules you want Altus to remember every time it writes. This is the place for business-specific context that does not fit anywhere else.

For example, you might write, "We focus on small-group hiking trips for solo travelers over 40." You might also tell it to avoid luxury language if you sell practical adventure tours.

Once these defaults are in place, you do not need to repeat them on every trip.

Customize content templates

Content Templates lets you change the instructions Altus uses for each type of section. This gives you more control when the standard wording is close, but not quite right for your business.

Altus already knows your Trip Name, Trip Duration, Destination, and Activities. You do not need to repeat those details in every template.

Each section - Overview, Trip Highlights, Itinerary, Includes/Excludes, and FAQs - shows a Default Instruction. Click Show more if you want to read the full default wording.

You will also see Custom instruction (optional override) for each section. Leave it blank if the default already works for you. Fill it in if you want to replace the default for that section completely.

For example, you might tell the FAQ section to always include a question about cancellation terms. Or you might ask the overview to focus more on beginner-friendly walking pace for your gentler trekking packages.

The default instructions are already written to avoid flat, generic AI copy. Only override a section when you have a clear reason that will come up again and again.

Once your templates look right, you are ready to generate content on an actual trip page.

Generate content on a trip page

You can generate content in two different ways while editing a trip. One is better for drafting a full listing. The other is better when you only want to fix one section.

From your dashboard, go to Trips and open the trip you want to work on.

Method 1: Use the Trip Wizard

Use the Trip Wizard when you want to draft several sections at once. This is the quickest option for a brand-new trip listing.

Open the Trip Wizard

This opens the guided setup for trip content.

Open your trip and click the purple Altus AI icon in the top right corner.

Check the trip details

Altus writes better when the basics are accurate.

On Trip Details, review or update the Trip Title, Duration, Output Language, Writing Tone, Reading Level, Destinations, and Activities for this trip.

Say you are adding a 3-day Annapurna trek. If the duration says 2 days by mistake, the draft will usually feel off too.

Pick the sections you want Altus to write

This lets you control what gets drafted and what stays untouched.

Under Content to Generate, check the sections you want to create. You can choose Overview, Trip Highlights, Itinerary, Includes/Excludes, FAQs, and any custom tab you added.

Add trip-specific notes

This is where you guide the draft for one specific trip.

Add anything unique under Additional Instructions. For example, you might say the tour includes gear rental, uses tea houses instead of camping, or is designed for first-time trekkers.

Review the advanced settings if you need them

These settings are optional. You only need them when this trip needs something extra.

Open Advanced settings if you want Altus to suggest a better title, include your brand voice, or use web search for this generation.

Generate the draft

This is where Altus starts writing.

Click Generate.

Review each section and apply it

You stay in control before anything is saved to the trip.

Read through each section. Edit anything you want. Then click Apply.

A good result here looks like a full draft in each selected section, ready for your final checks.

Finish and return to the trip

This saves the generated content to the trip page.

Click Done.

The wizard uses the AI provider and brand voice settings you already set under Content Generation. If the writing feels off, check those settings first.

Method 2: Generate from one tab

Use this method when most of the trip page is already fine and you only want to write or rewrite one part.

Say your route changed for day 4 of a multi-day trek. You can update the itinerary without touching the overview or FAQs.

Open the section you want to work on

This keeps your changes focused on one part of the trip page.

Go to the tab you want to update, such as Itinerary, and look at the top right of that content block.

Use the main AI button for a standard draft

This is the fastest option when your normal site-wide settings are enough.

Click the Altus AI icon to generate using your global Content Generation settings, including tone, reading level, and brand voice.

Use the pencil button when the section needs a special note

This gives you more control for one-off changes.

Click the pencil icon to write your own instruction for that generation. For example, you might say, "Mention the new lakeside lodge on day 2" or "Make this shorter for mobile readers."

If content is already in the field, you will see Rewrite. If the field is empty, you will see Write. The icon stays the same.

This works on Overview, Itinerary, Includes/Excludes, FAQs, and any custom tab you created. On sections with multiple items, such as itinerary days or FAQs, smaller regenerate buttons let you rewrite one day or one FAQ without changing the rest.

If WP Travel Engine's Advanced Itinerary add-on is active, itinerary generation also adjusts to hour-based schedules and fills extra fields such as meals and overnight stays.

Whichever method you choose, review the content before you publish it. The result is normal editable content on your trip page, so you can change it any time.

If most of a section is already good and you only want one change, use Rewrite with Instruction. For example, ask it to make the overview shorter or mention a group discount instead of generating the whole section again.

Use cases

Launching a full trip listing from scratch

You might use this when you are building a brand-new trip page and want a first draft fast.

Situation: You are adding a new 12-day trek and want all the main sections drafted at once instead of writing them one by one.

Implementation:

  • Fill in Trip Title, Duration, Destinations, and Activities in the Trip Details step.
  • Check all sections under Content to Generate: Overview, Trip Highlights, Itinerary, Includes/Excludes, FAQs, and Custom tabs.
  • Add a note under Additional Instructions with anything special about the route, such as a certain base camp variation.

Benefit: You get a complete first draft in one pass. Then you can spend your time editing and polishing instead of doing all the writing from scratch.

Rewriting one section after a trip change

You might use this when one part of a live trip listing changed but the rest still looks right.

Situation: You already published a trip, but the itinerary changed after a route update and you do not want to touch the rest of the page.

Implementation:

  • Open the Itinerary tab.
  • Click the pencil icon and describe the change, such as "Day 4 now ends at a different lodge and the walking time is shorter."

Benefit: Only the itinerary updates. Your overview, highlights, and FAQs stay as they are.

Tips for better results

A few habits make a big difference here. These are worth keeping in mind every time you generate content.

  • Fill in real trip details before you generate. If the destination, activity, or duration is vague, the draft will be vague too.
  • Set Brand Voice once with care. This field affects the feel of every draft more than most other settings.
  • Save custom instructions for cases where you need something specific. The built-in defaults are already tuned to avoid generic wording.
  • Review everything before publishing. Think of the result as a strong draft, not the final word.

If you keep your trip details clean and your instructions clear, the drafts usually improve quickly.

Costs and usage tracking

Content generation is billed by your connected AI provider. Altus does not add an extra charge on top.

If you want to keep an eye on how much writing you are generating, check your usage regularly.

For a full guide on tracking usage and costs, see Usage & Logs.

Troubleshooting

The Altus AI icon is not showing on my trip page

Start by checking whether the feature is turned on. Go to Altus AI in the left sidebar of your WordPress dashboard and make sure the Content Generation module is enabled.

Then open Trips again and reload the trip page. If the module was off, the icon will not appear until you turn it on and save the change.

The AI Model dropdown is empty

This usually means Altus has not been able to load the model list from your provider yet. Go back to Altus AI > AI Provider and test the connection again.

After that, return to Content Generation and check the dropdown again. If the provider connection is working, the models should appear.

The generated itinerary stops halfway through

A longer trip needs more room to finish. Go to Altus AI > Content Generation and raise the Token Limit.

This often fixes cut-off itineraries for multi-day trips. If your 14-day trek stops after day 8, Token Limit is the first setting to check.

The writing does not sound like my business

Check your Brand Voice, Content Tone, and Reading Level first. Short, clear brand notes usually work better than long instructions full of mixed ideas.

For example, "Friendly, practical, and focused on small-group trekking for adults 40+" is more useful than a long paragraph trying to cover every type of trip you sell.

Nothing happens when I try to generate content

Check that an AI provider is connected and selected. Altus cannot generate anything until both the provider and model are set.

Then make sure you are editing an actual trip and not another WordPress page. The generation buttons only appear inside supported trip fields.

I changed a setting but the output still looks the same

Site-wide settings affect future generations. They do not rewrite content you already generated.

Generate the section again after saving your new settings. If needed, use the pencil icon and add a short instruction so the next draft follows the new direction more closely.

FAQs

No. The AI Provider and Model you choose under Content Generation apply across your whole site. If you switch providers, it changes for every trip.
