Unable to Upload Images on the Gallery
Fix image upload failures in your trip gallery by regenerating thumbnails and fixing WordPress media size settings without any coding.
If images won't upload to your trip gallery, there are two settings in WordPress that usually cause it. You can fix both in a few minutes without any technical knowledge.
Say you're setting up a 5-day mountain trek and want to add photos of the trail and campsites. You go to the Gallery section of your trip, try to upload an image, and nothing happens. This is a known issue, and it comes down to either how WordPress creates image thumbnails or a number being set to zero in your media settings.
Fix 1: Regenerate your thumbnails
When you upload an image to WordPress, it creates smaller copies of that image (called thumbnails) so your pages load faster for travelers. Sometimes this process fails. When it does, images may not appear in your trip gallery even though you uploaded them. Running a free plugin to recreate those thumbnails usually fixes it.
You'll need to be logged in to your WordPress dashboard before you start. That's the admin area you see when you log in to manage your site.
Install the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin
A plugin is a small add-on that gives WordPress extra features. You'll only need this one temporarily.
On the left side of your WordPress dashboard, hover over Plugins, then click Add New. Search for "Regenerate Thumbnails," then click Install Now. Once it finishes installing, click Activate.

Now that the plugin is active, you can use it.
On the left side of your dashboard, hover over Tools, then click Regenerate Thumbnails.
Run the regeneration
This recreates all the smaller image copies on your site. It might take a few minutes if you have a lot of photos.
Click the button to start the process. Wait for it to finish, then go back to your trip and try uploading an image to the gallery again.
If your images upload now, you're all set. If not, the next fix takes care of a different cause.
Fix 2: Check your media image size settings
WordPress has a settings page where you tell it how big or small your image copies should be. If any of those sizes are set to zero, WordPress can't create the image copies your trip gallery needs. This is easy to miss because the settings look fine until you look closely at the numbers.
Open your Media settings
This is where WordPress stores the image size numbers.
On the left side of your WordPress dashboard, hover over Settings, then click Media.
Check the image size numbers
You'll see three fields: Thumbnail size, Medium size, and Large size. These control how big the different copies of your images are.
Look at each number. If any of them are set to 0, that's what's blocking your gallery uploads.
Fix any zeros
Change any zero values to a reasonable size. For reference, a common setup is 150 for thumbnails, 300 for medium, and 1024 for large. You don't need to be exact. The key is that none of them are zero.
Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save Changes.
After saving, go back to your trip and try uploading an image to the gallery. It should work now. If you changed the media size numbers, your previously uploaded images might look slightly different in size until you run the Regenerate Thumbnails tool from Fix 1 again.
