How to Add a New Pricing Type in WP Travel Engine
Create custom pricing labels like per person, per couple, or per group, and assign them to your trips so travelers see exactly how your prices work.
You can set up pricing labels that match the way you sell your tours. That means you can show prices per person, per group, per couple, or any other type that fits your trip. A plugin is a small add-on program that gives your WordPress site extra features. WP Travel Engine is the plugin you are using to manage your trips. Being able to set your own pricing labels gives you more flexibility in how prices appear to travelers.
Say you run a 3-day trek and want to charge one flat rate for a couple sharing a room. In that case, a pricing type like Per Couple helps your price make sense right away.
Before you start, make sure WP Travel Engine is installed and active, and that you already have at least one trip created so you can assign the pricing type to it later.
Adding a new pricing type
Your WordPress dashboard is the admin area where you manage everything. You can get to it by adding /wp-admin to the end of your website address. The WP Travel Engine menu is on the left side of your WordPress dashboard.
You only need to add a pricing type once. After that, you can reuse it on any trip. Once this part is done, your pricing labels will be ready to pick from later.
Open Pricing Type settings
A good place to start is the main settings area for your trip pricing labels.
Go to Admin Dashboard > WP Travel Engine > Settings > General > Trip Settings > Pricing Type.
Add a pricing type
This creates a new label you can use across your trips.
Click Add Pricing Type.
Enter a label
Choose the wording travelers will see next to the price.
Under Type (Per), enter your label. For example, you might write Per Couple.
Add a description
The description helps you remember what the pricing type means when you look back later.
Add a short description explaining what this pricing type means. For example, you might note that Per Group is for one shared price for up to six travelers.
Save your changes
Saving makes the new pricing type available across your site.
Click Save Settings.
If you can see your new label in the Pricing Type list, you are in good shape. Next, you can attach it to a real trip.
Using a pricing type on an individual trip
Now that the pricing type exists, you can apply it to a trip. This is the part that controls how the price is shown on that specific package.
A pricing category is a group you set up for different types of travelers, like Adults, Children, or Students. For example, you might use Adult and Child on a family day tour, or Standard Package and Deluxe Package on a multi-day trip.
Edit the trip
Start by opening the trip where you want the new label to appear.
Go to Trips > All Trips > Edit for the trip you want to update.
Open the Date and Price section
This is where the trip's package and pricing details live.
Navigate to the Date and Price section. Then click the Packages area.
Assign a pricing type per category
Pick the label that matches how each traveler group should be priced.
For each pricing category, such as Adult or Child, choose the right Pricing Type from the dropdown menu.
For example, a private jeep tour might use Per Group, while a shared walking tour might use Per Person.
Once you save the trip, travelers will see pricing in a way that matches the offer. That makes your prices easier to understand.
Why use different pricing types?
Different pricing types help you match the price label to the kind of trip you sell. That matters when your tours do not all follow the same pricing model.
- Offer flexible pricing models - Use labels for per person pricing, group discounts, couple deals, and more.
- Clearly communicate your pricing structure - Travelers can tell whether a price is for one person, two people, or a full group.
- Keep your trip listings organized and easy to understand - Your pricing stays clearer across day tours, treks, private departures, and seasonal offers.
For example, you might price a guided city walk per person, a honeymoon package per couple, and a private mountain trip per group. Once the label matches the offer, the price feels much clearer to the traveler.
Editing or removing a pricing type
You can change a pricing type any time. Go back to Trip Settings > Pricing Type, then edit the label or description, or remove it if you no longer need it.
If you remove a pricing type, make sure to update any trips that were using it.
That is all you need for ongoing updates. If something does not look right, help is available.
