How to Add a Trip Itinerary
Set up a day-by-day itinerary for your trips so travelers know exactly what each day looks like before they book.
Why your trip needs an itinerary
Your travelers want to know what each day of their trip looks like. A good itinerary walks them through it, day by day. It shows the activities, the places you'll visit, and roughly when things happen.
This helps travelers feel confident about booking. They can see the full picture before they pay. It also helps you stay organized. When every day is mapped out, fewer things fall through the cracks.
Say you run a 5-day trek in the Annapurna region. Your itinerary might list Day 1 as the drive to the trailhead and a short acclimatization walk. Day 2 could be the first full day of trekking to a village at 3,000 meters. Each day gets its own title and a short description.
Add your itinerary
What you'll need before you start: a trip already created in WordPress. If you haven't made one yet, the first step below covers opening a new trip.
Open your trip for editing
This takes you to the trip editor, where you'll fill in all the details for your trip.
In the left sidebar of your WordPress dashboard (the admin area you see when you log in to your website), click Trips. Then click Add New.
If you're editing a trip you already started, go to Trips > All Trips instead. Hover over the trip name and click Edit.
Find the Itinerary tab
This is where you'll build your day-by-day plan. Each day you add here will show up on your trip's page for travelers to read.
Scroll down past the main text editor until you see a box labeled Trip Settings. Inside it, look for the tab labeled Itinerary and click it.
Add your first day
This is where you start writing out the plan for each day.
Click the Add Itinerary button. You'll see a new section where you can type a title for the day. Something like "Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu" works well. Below the title, write a description of what happens that day.
The description is where you write out the activities, meals, travel time, and anything else travelers should know about that day. Keep it clear so travelers can follow along.
Add more days and save
Most trips span several days, so you'll want to add one entry for each.
Click Add Itinerary again for each additional day. Fill in the title and description the same way you did for the first one.
When you're happy with your itinerary, click Publish at the top right of the page. Use Publish for a new trip. Use Update if you're editing one that's already live. Your itinerary is now on your trip page.
That's your itinerary set up. Travelers visiting your trip page will now see each day laid out one after the other.
Want more from your itinerary?
The basic itinerary tab covers the essentials. If you want richer formatting or more details per day, there are two extensions that can help. An extension (also called an add-on) is an optional upgrade that adds extra features to WP Travel Engine.
Need more itinerary fields or richer text editing? The Advanced Itinerary Builder extension adds a rich text editor, sleeping mode, meals, and the ability to attach photos to each day.
Want travelers to download the itinerary as a PDF for later? Get the Itinerary Downloader extension.
