Getting Started with Altus AI

Set up Altus AI on your WP Travel Engine site so AI can write your trip content and help manage your bookings.

What Altus AI does

Altus AI helps with two parts of running tours online that often take the most time. It helps you write trip content. It also helps you check and update booking details without digging through WordPress screens.

Altus AI comes with two separate modules. A module is a feature inside Altus AI that you can turn on or off. You can use one module, or both, depending on what you need.

Content Generation

Creates a first draft for your trip pages inside WP Travel Engine. It can write the overview, highlights, day-by-day itinerary, inclusions, exclusions, and FAQs. Say you run a 3-day Annapurna trek. Instead of writing the overview, day-by-day plan, and FAQs yourself, you type in the basics and the AI writes the first draft for you.

MCP

Connects an AI assistant like Claude or ChatGPT to your site so you can ask questions in plain language. Say a customer asks if there is space on the Annapurna trek next month. Instead of logging into WordPress and checking the booking calendar, you ask the AI assistant and it tells you.

The two modules work independently. Turning on one does not require the other. You can also switch either one off later without affecting the other.

This page walks you through the setup. Once a module is active, you can move on to the guide for that specific feature.

Before you start

Here is what you need before you begin.

You will need a working WordPress site, WP Travel Engine already installed, and your Altus AI plugin ready to activate.

Confirm these requirements first:

WordPress version 7.0 or newer
WP Travel Engine version 6.8.5 or newer
Altus AI installed and activated with a valid license key

Once those are in place, you are ready to connect your license.

Purchase and activate your Altus AI license

Before you start, make sure you can access your email and your WordPress dashboard. Your license key is the long code that proves you've paid for Altus AI.

You will need to buy an Altus AI plan first. Then you will copy the license key from your purchase confirmation or your WP Travel Engine account.

Choose a pricing plan

Start by picking the plan that fits your business.

Altus AI offers three plans:

Solo - 1 site license
Business - 10 site licenses (5 + 5 bonus during the launch offer)
Agency - Multiple site licenses for agencies

Select Get Started for Solo or Agency, or Get Professional for Business, to continue to checkout.

Complete your purchase

This step creates your order and ties your license to your account.

On the checkout page:

Review your order.
Enter your email address, first name, and last name.
Choose a payment method.
Complete the payment.

If you do not already have a WP Travel Engine account, one is created automatically using the email address you enter at checkout.

Copy your license key

After payment, you will get the code you need to activate Altus AI on your site.

After checkout, you're redirected to the Purchase Confirmation page. Under License Keys, copy the license key for your Altus AI plan.

Your license key is also emailed to you. If it does not arrive within a few minutes, check your spam or junk folder.

Find your license key later (optional)

If you do not copy the key right away, you can come back and get it later.

To retrieve your license key at any time:

Sign in to your WP Travel Engine account.
Open My Account.
Go to the License Key History tab.
Copy the license key for your Altus AI license.

Activate your license on your site

This step connects your purchase to the plugin on your WordPress site.

In your WordPress dashboard, look at the left sidebar and follow these steps:

Go to Altus AI > License.
Paste your license key into the License Key field.
Click Activate.

Once activation succeeds, you'll see:

Status: Connected
Plan
Expiration Date
Sites Used

If activation fails, confirm that you copied the full license key with no extra spaces. Also make sure you are activating it on a site covered by your license.

Now that the license is connected, it is a good idea to make sure Altus AI is showing up where it should.

Verify the installation

These quick checks confirm that the plugin is active and ready to use. A plugin is an add-on you install in WordPress to add new features.

Open your WordPress dashboard.

Look for Altus AI in the left sidebar

On the left-hand menu, you should see Altus AI listed there.

Open the main plugin screen

Click Altus AI to open the Modules page. This is the main screen for the plugin.

If you can see that page, the plugin is installed correctly. Next, you can turn on the feature you want to use.

Turn on a module

Before you start, make sure your Altus AI license is already active. You will turn on the feature from the Modules page in your WordPress dashboard.

You will need an active Altus AI license before you can turn on a module.

Open the Modules page

This is where you control which Altus AI features are available on your site.

Go to Altus AI > Modules.

Locate the module

Find the box for Content Generation or MCP, depending on what you want to use.

Turn on the switch

Click the switch on that module's box to turn it on.

Save your settings

This is the part people miss most often.

Scroll down and click Save Settings in the bottom-right corner.

Clicking the switch alone does not save your change.

Confirm it's active

Once saved, the box now reads Active. You will also see a Configure link. That link takes you to the setup for that module.

At this point, the feature is turned on. The next step is to connect an AI provider so Altus AI can do the work.

Configure the AI provider

Before you start, make sure the module you want to use is already active. You will also need an account with an AI provider.

You will need your AI provider details for this part. An API key is a special password that lets Altus AI talk to the AI service. You get it from the provider's website. A companion plugin is a small helper plugin that makes a specific AI provider work with Altus AI.

This connection is what lets Altus AI write content or answer questions from your booking data. For example, if you want AI to draft a page for a 5-day Everest view trek, or help you check whether a family booking already added airport pickup, this is the setup that makes that possible.

Open AI Providers

In your WordPress dashboard, go to Altus AI > AI Providers.

Choose a provider

Pick Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, or OpenRouter. Each provider shows its own status badge until connected.

To use Anthropic, Google, or OpenAI, you will need a separate companion plugin. Clicking Install takes you to that plugin's install page.

Install the companion plugin (if prompted)

If Altus AI asks you to install a helper plugin, do that first. Then come back to the Altus AI page.

Click Install, then return to the Altus AI page.

Enter your API key

This key gives Altus AI permission to connect to your chosen AI service.

Click the provider to expand it, then enter your API key.

Test the connection

Run the test to make sure the key works before you move on.

Test the connection to confirm the key works and to pull in that provider's model list.

Save the provider settings

Once the test works, save the settings so the connection stays in place.

Save the settings once the connection test succeeds to apply the provider configuration.

Consider OpenRouter if you would rather manage one key that reaches several models instead of keeping a separate key for each provider.

Once the provider is connected, Altus AI is ready for module-specific setup.

Use this if you turned on Content Generation. It shows you how to connect an AI provider, set your brand tone and voice, and create draft content for your trips.

MCP connection guide

Use this if you turned on MCP. It shows you how to connect Claude, ChatGPT, or tools like Cursor or VS Code to your site.

If you are not sure which one to open first, start with the feature you plan to use right away.

Troubleshooting

Go to Plugins in your WordPress dashboard and check that Altus AI is activated there. Then go to Altus AI > License and make sure your license key is active. If the plugin is active and the menu still does not appear, refresh the page and sign in again.

I turned on the switch, but the module still says Inactive

Go back to the Modules page and click Save Settings at the bottom-right corner. The switch does not save by itself. After saving, refresh the page and check whether the module now shows Active.

I don't see a Configure link

The Configure link only appears after the module shows Active. Save your settings first, then refresh the page. If the module still says Inactive, turn the switch on again and save one more time.

I pasted my license key but activation failed

Check that you copied the full license key with no extra spaces before or after it. Then make sure the website you are activating matches the number of sites allowed by your plan.

The AI provider connection test keeps failing

Check that you copied the full API key exactly as shown by the provider. If you are using Anthropic, Google, or OpenAI, make sure the required companion plugin is installed first. Then run the connection test again.

I turned on a module but nothing looks different on my site

Turning on a module only makes that feature available. It does not finish the setup for you. Look for the Configure link on the module card and open it to complete the next steps.
