Install Travel Monster on your WordPress site

A theme is a design package that controls how your website looks. It sets the layout, colors, fonts, and overall style your travelers see when they visit your site. Travel Monster is a theme built specifically for tour and travel businesses, so it's designed to pair naturally with WP Travel Engine.

The theme comes as a .zip file. That's a compressed folder format that WordPress requires for installation. You'll download it from the WP Travel Engine website and then upload it into your WordPress site.

Before you start, make sure you have your WordPress admin login handy. That's the username and password for the back-end control panel of your site.

Download the theme file

First, you'll grab the theme file so you have it ready on your computer.

Go to the Travel Monster theme page and click Get it Now. This downloads the theme file to your computer.

The file ends in .zip. That's the format WordPress expects, so leave it as it is. Don't unzip it.

Open the Themes screen

Now you'll head to the part of WordPress where themes live.

Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard (usually found at yourwebsite.com/wp-admin). On the left sidebar of your dashboard, click Appearance, then click Themes.

Start a new theme upload

WordPress shows a grid of themes that are already on your site. You need to add the Travel Monster file you downloaded.

Click Add New at the top of the page. Then click Upload Theme near the top of the next screen.

Select the downloaded file

Click Choose File and pick the .zip file you downloaded in step 1. This tells WordPress which file to install.

Install the theme

Now WordPress will copy the theme files onto your site. This is the step where the theme actually gets added to your WordPress installation.

Click Install Now and give WordPress a moment to upload and unpack the files. You'll see a progress message while it works.

Activate Travel Monster

Installing puts the theme files on your site, but it won't change anything until you activate it. Activation tells WordPress to start using this theme as your site's design.

Once the installation finishes, click Activate. Your site now uses Travel Monster as its active theme.

Verify installation

You can confirm everything worked by checking the Themes screen. After activation, Travel Monster shows as the active theme on the Appearance > Themes page. Your site's front end (the part your travelers see when they visit your website) now uses the theme's default layout.

If your site looks a bit plain right now, that's normal. The theme starts with a basic layout, and you'll customize it as you go. The next step brings in a polished, ready-made design you can build on.

If you're using Safari on a Mac to download the theme file, Safari may automatically unzip it after downloading. WordPress needs the file to stay as a .zip for the upload to work. If this happens, turn off Safari's automatic unzipping and download the theme file again.

Next step

Your theme is installed and active. The next step is to import a starter site, which brings in demo content, sample pages, and ready-made layouts that match the Travel Monster design. Think of it as a head start: instead of building every page from scratch, you get a complete, professional-looking site you can edit and make your own.
